Frequently Asked Questions
What is cosmetic tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing is a semi-permanent makeup tattooing technique that uses pigment to enhance features like eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner.
How long does cosmetic tattooing last?
Results typically last 1–3 years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and the area treated.
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
A numbing cream is applied to minimise discomfort. Most clients say they feel mild pressure or a scratching sensation.
Am I Eligible for Cosmetic Tattooing?
To be eligible for cosmetic tattooing, you must:
Be over 18 years of age.
Not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
Not have impaired skin in the treatment area (e.g., wounds or sunburn).
Not have had facial surgery in the last 6–12 months.
Be free of certain autoimmune diseases.
Please contact info@pixicosmeticstudio.com.au if you:
Are taking blood-thinning agents (e.g., aspirin, fish oil).
Are immunocompromised.
Are currently on or have recently completed oral isotretinoin.
Consulting before booking ensures your safety and the best results.
What Should I Do Before My Appointment?
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin) for 24 hours prior.
Refrain from skincare treatments (e.g., peels, retinol) near the treatment area.
Please review our Pre & Aftercare section for detailed instructions to ensure the best results.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
Each session typically lasts 2–3 hours, including consultation, design, and tattooing. We take the time to ensure you’re comfortable and achieve the best possible results.
What Can I Expect During the Procedure?
The process starts with a consultation to discuss your desired shape, style, and colour. A numbing agent is applied for comfort, followed by precise mapping and selecting the perfect shade. Once approved, the tattooing begins to achieve your customised results.
What Is the Aftercare Like?
For the best results, please read our Pre & Aftercare section for detailed instructions to follow after your procedure.
How Long Does It Take to Heal?
The initial healing process typically takes 7–10 days, but full healing and colour settling can take up to 6 weeks.
Will There Be Swelling or Scabbing?
Mild swelling, redness, and flaking are normal and should subside within a few days. To ensure proper healing, avoid picking at scabs.
Do I Need a Touch-Up?
Yes, a touch-up session is recommended 4–8 weeks after the initial procedure to refine and perfect the results. Annual touch-ups are also recommended to maintain the look.
Can I Remove or Adjust My Cosmetic Tattoo?
Yes, if needed, saline removal or laser treatments can be used to fade or remove unwanted results.
Will the Colour Change Over Time?
The pigment may fade naturally over time, sometimes changing to a cooler or warmer tone depending on your skin type.
Can I Wear Makeup Over the Tattooed Area?
It’s best to wait at least 2 weeks before applying makeup to the tattooed area to ensure proper healing.
How Natural Will the Results Look?
At Pixi, we specialise in natural-looking cosmetic tattooing that is fully customised to your preferences and facial features.
What If I Have Allergies or Sensitive Skin?
A patch test is recommended if you have any allergies or sensitive skin to ensure safe and comfortable treatment.
Why Don’t We Perform Microblading?
Microblading involves manually creating cuts in the skin, which can be unpredictable and may result in uneven or unnatural results. It also requires frequent touch-ups and can lead to scar tissue over time. Instead, we use a machine technique that creates soft, natural-looking pixelated hairstroke effects that heal to a subtle, tinted finish, providing longer-lasting and more reliable results (NANO BROWS)
I’ve had cosmetic tattooing done elsewhere. Can I book a correction/touch-up with you?
New clients with previous cosmetic tattooing must book an Initial Appointment and send photos and details of the prior work to info@pixicosmeticstudio.com.au.
Correcting or touching up previous work involves more than just "working over" it. In some cases, removal or additional touch-ups may be necessary. Our goal is to provide the best results, and we appreciate your understanding of the process to achieve that.
